This day hike will allow you to visit two historic places: The Appalachian Trail and the fire-lookout on Mt. Cammerer. We will have lunch while observing breathtaking views and walking around the circular walkway of this timber and stone structure. The fire lookout was built by the CCC in 1939 and is now on the National Register of Historic Places. This hike is far less crowded than Mt. LeConte and the views are just asbreathtaking. This trail head will be used when coming from North Carolina or for a more remote hike to Mt. Cammerer the backway.
